Apprentices in court over alleged theft of trainer’s N1.9m

Lagos, Aug. 24, 2018 (NAN) Three apprentices, who allegedly stole their trainer’s N1.9 million, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Mustapha Akeem, 32; Musa Isa, 30; and Maiya Awami, 35, live at Alakuko, a suburb of Lagos, and were charged with conspiracy and stealing.

All the accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem, told the court that the accused committed the offences from July 19 to Aug. 18 at 4A, LASU-Isheri Expressway, Igando, Lagos.

Akeem said that the accused were learning trading from the complainant, Alhaji Muritala Kareem, a dealer in building materials.

“The complainant had noticed that some goods were sold but the money not remitted into the company’s account.

“It was during auditing that he discovered that N1.9 million was missing; when he asked the accused, they could not account for it,” the prosecutor said.

Akeem said that the case was reported at a police station and the accused arrested.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offences contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Jadesola Adeyemi-Ajayi, granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adeyemi-Ajayi adjourned the case until Sept. 11 for mention. (NAN)
