Apprentice in court for stealing N2.3m from his boss

Lagos, July 12, 2018 (NAN)The police on Thursday arraigned a 22-year-old apprentice,  Daniel Emeluo who allegedly absconded with N2.3 million belonging to his boss in a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court.
The police charged the accused with one count of theft.
The prosecutor, ASP Fidelis Dike told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept. 7, 2017 at No. 23/25 Martins St., Lagos Island.
He said that the accused disappeared with N2.3million his boss, Mr Joseph Ibeh sent him to deposit in the bank.
The accused who is serving under Ibeh as an apprentice, he said, ran away with N2.3 million, being proceeds for the day’s sales he was sent to deposit in the bank in September, 2017.
“Through the help of the police, the accused was found and apprehended on July 4,” he said.
The offence, he added contravened section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which stipulates seven years imprisonment for offenders.
After the charges were read to him, Emeluo, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mr Omolaja Kazeem, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Kazeem ordered that one of the sureties must be a relative of the accused.
He adjourned the case until July 23 for trial.(NAN)
