Applicant bags 3 months jail term for stealing electricity switch

Abuja, Jan. 31, 201 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a 24-year-old applicant, Aaron Lar, to three months imprisonment for stealing electricity switch.
Lar of no fixed address was arraigned on a count charge of theft, an offence he admitted committing.
The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, however gave the convict an option to pay N5, 000 fine and warned him against taking to crimes in future.
The prosecuting counsel, Mrs Auhioboh Florence, had told the court that one Abigail Akibu of STC Shop 103, Special Line, Utako market, reported the matter at Utako Police Station on Jan. 25.
Auhioboh told the court that on Jan. 24, the convict dishonestly entered the complainant’s shop at Utako market, and made away with one electricity change over swit/ch without her consent.
She said that the security guard in Utako market arrested the convict with the electricity change over switch and handed him over to the police.
The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the convict confessed to have stolen the electricity change over switch from STC Shop.

The offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.
The section stipulates five years imprisonment for stealing, with an option of fine or both. (NAN)
