Applicant bags 3 months imprisonment over attempt to steal generator

Abuja Aug.28, 2017 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday sentenced a 29-year-old applicant, Jide Samson, to three months imprisonment for causing public nuisance and attempt to a generator.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option to pay N5, 000 fine.
Sadiq advised the convict to desist from committing crimes, adding that the sentence would serve as deterrent to other offenders.
Samson, of no fixed address, was convicted on a four-count charge bordering on public nuisance, attempt to commit an offence, idleness and vagabond
The convict, who pleaded guilty to the charges, urged the court to temper justice with mercy, that hunger pushed him to attempt to commit the crime.
The prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, had told the court that the convict was rescued by some police team, from angry mob at Karmo, on Aug. 25.
Auhioboh said that the convict attempted to steal a generator, but he was seen and the mob chased and caught him.
During police investigation, he confessed to the crime and the generator was recovered.
The prosecutor said that the offences were punishable under Sections 198, 95, 406 and 107 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
