Lagos, Oct. 18, 2017 (NAN) A 26-year-old applicant, Michael Abidoye, was on Wednesday remanded at the Kirikiri Prison, Lagos, on the orders of an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The Magistrate, Mrs J.O. Awope, ordered the remand of the defendant after he confessed to stealing a car valued at N1 million.
Awope ordered that the accused would remain behind bars until Friday, Oct. 20, for sentencing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept. 26, at Pen-Cinema, Agege, Lagos.
He said that the accused stole a ford bus valued at N1 million, belonging to the complainant, Mrs Fatimo Ganiyu.
Ayorinde alleged that the complainant had parked the vehicle on the roadside, to get something from a nearby shop, only to return and discovered her vehicle missing from the spot.
“The vehicle was traced down to Ogun where it was finally recovered from the accused,” he told the court.
“The accused confessed to the crime, attributing it to the handiwork of the devil, and pleaded for mercy,” he added.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Section prescribes three-year jail term for any offender found guilty of the offence. (NAN)
