Lagos, Aug.9, 2017( NAN) “I am guilty as charged, it is the handiwork of the devil,” 23-year-old applicant, Nurudeen Atanda, who was sentenced to one month imprisonment for attempted stealing, told an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Atanda, in his allocutus, also pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing him.

The Magistrate, Mrs I.O. Raji, found the accused guilty of the two-count charge of conspiracy and intent to commit felony after he pleaded guilty.

“You are hereby sentenced to one month imprisonment with hard labour and without an option of fine,” she said.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, told the court that the accused with others still at large committed the offences at 4.30 a.m. at Ekoro Road, Abule-Egba, a Lagos suburb.

He alleged that the accused with others conspired to remove the roof of a building to burgle a boutique.

“The security guard heard noises and he decided to find out what was happening, and he sighted the accuse and others removing
the roof of a boutique in order to gain entry to steal clothes.

“The security guard raised alarm which attracted the occupants as the accuse quickly jumped down from the roof and took to their heels.

“They were given a hot chase but only the accused was arrested while his accomplices escaped,” Egunjobi told the court.

The offences contravened Sections 406 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).(NAN)
