Abuja, August 9, 2018 (NAN) Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) has advised Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to focus more on governance than politics.
The party gave the advice in a statement by its National publicity Secretary, Mr Sesugh Akume, on Thursday in Abuja.
It said that the acting president should go beyond the sack of Mr Lawal Daura, former Director-General of Department of State Services (DSS) and check rising cases of impunity and recklessness.
It stated that Tuesday blockade of the National Assembly, which had been viewed as an assault on a constitutionally-established institution was of more importance than partisan politics.
“We want the acting president to go beyond the removal, arrest and interrogation of Mr Lawal Daura.
“We want thorough investigation on the circumstances of the siege in other to implement far-reaching reforms in the Service to forestall further abuse of the agency,” it said.
The party added that a reform of the service would mete out consequences for all abuses of the system.
It urged Osinbajo to extend the reform to other security services by implementing the Kingibe Committee’s report of December, 2017 on security services reforms.
“It is time to review the performances of the Inspector-General of police and all the service chiefs.
“We believe that the daily killings in some parts of the country are a consequence of the failures of security services.
“We also want a proper check on the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). Resolving these and providing the security and welfare of Nigerians is more critical than mere politicking and power-mongering,” it stated.
The party appealed that the acting president should look into the numerous unresolved issues that could not be swept under the carpet.
“The issues around Mr David Babachir, former Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), the Ex-Director-General of Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the forgery allegation against Mrs Kemi Adeosun, Finance Minister.
“These and others are grave issues that need to be addressed and cannot be swept under the carpet,” it said.
The party expressed dismay at a statement reportedly made by Mr Babatunde Ojudu, Political Adviser to the President, to the effect that Daura was sacked for partisan considerations and was allegedly working in connivance with Senate President. (NAN)
