Abuja, Feb. 7, 2017 (NAN) Nigeria Nation-wide League (NNWL) Division Two clubside Alpha United Football Club on Tuesday held highly-rated City Strikers FC to a 2-2 draw in an ongoing pre-season tournament in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the tournament is organised for various clubs in the second and third-tier league competitions respectively.
No fewer than 20 clubs are taking part in the tournament which will help them prepare for the new season expected to kick off in March.
NNWL division one side City Strikers were up against a determined Alpha United squad at the Area 3 football pitch, and it helped to make the match competitive.
City Strikers took a 2-0 lead through a brace by Ibrahim Halidu in the 34th and 43rd minutes, only for Alpha United to strike back with two goals of their own.
Peter Okonkwo reduced the deficit for Alpha United through a powerful header in the 62nd minute, before Junior Utibe-Abasi levelled from the penalty spot in the 77th minute.
Halidu would have secured a last-gasp victory for City Strikers in added time but fluffed his lines with only the goalkeeper to beat.
Other matches also played on Tuesday saw NNWL division one side AMAC FC whipped lowly Overcomers FC 5-2, while FCT League side Henfield FC defeated their counterparts Camp United FC 2-1.(NAN)
