His plea was, however, not taken by the court and was ordered to be remanded at Ikoyi Prisons.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, directed that the case file should be duplicated and a copy forwarded to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice and adjourned the case to April 1.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Chinalu Nwadione told the court that the Shakiru had committed the offences on Feb. 17 at about 2.00 p.m. at No. 14, Olaleye St., Somolu, Lagos.

He said the accused claimed during police investigation that he dismembered his wife’s body and disposed of it to “escape his father in-law’s wrath”.

According to him, his father-in-law was against the union from the outset and had warned the accused to sever any any link with his daughter, Serifat.

Nwadione said the accused claimed that Serifat visited him and died in his place after being hit by a hit-and-run truck.

“The accused said he took the action since he knew the father-in-law might make him pay dearly for the wife’s death.”

The offences contravened Sections 165 and 222 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
