Lafia, Jan. 4, 2017 ( NAN ) Gov. Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State on Wednesday urged journalists to effectively cover sports to discover hidden talents.
“With improved publicity on sports, abundant talents across the country will be discovered,’’ Al-Makura said in Lafia.
The governor made the appeal when he inspected the Lafia Township Stadium undergoing renovation.
He noted that sports were very crucial to national development and that if given deserved coverage, would regain lost glory.
The governor also urged that sports in Nigeria should be devoid of politics.
Al-makura said that his administration remained committed to funding sports.
“My administration is committed to funding sports as a veritable tool for peace, unity and national development”.
“Sports have now become a tool of national and international integration as well as diplomacy,” he added.
The governor gave the assurance that the Lafia Township Stadium would meet international standards, when completed.
He expressed satisfaction at the level of renovation work at the stadium.
“I am impressed that the place is gradually becoming a state-of-the-art stadium; we need to have another field for our practices so we can dedicate the main stadium for national and international competitions,’’ he said
