Lagos, April 28, 2017 (NAN) Abdulmumin Yusuf, Chairman, Main Organising Committee (MOC) of the forthcoming 16th Agoma Open Taekwondo Championships, says late registration by athletes for the competition will attract an extra fee of N1, 000.
Yusuf told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos that registration of athletes, clubs and state teams which was declared open in March came to a close on Friday.
He said the event to be hosted by the Kano State Government would hold from May 10 to May 13 at the Indoor Sports Hall of Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofo Mata, Kano.
“Registration has been on for over a month and that participants were aware that the closing date is May 28, so, we have officially drawn the curtain.
“The reason is to enable us compile the list of those registered and make necessary preparations for logistics since the competition will commence two weeks from now.
“However, we will consider others who have yet to register but they are required to pay an extra fee of N1, 000 in addition to the official N3, 000 participation fee,’’ he said.
The MOC chairman said it was essential to tidy up arrangement to enable the body to allocate registered athletes rooms, adding that free accommodation was made available by the Kano State Government.
According to him, the committee will give preference for accommodation to athletes and teams who made their registration early enough before the official closing date.
“We are going to allocate the accommodation according to the list we have, even when athletes are going to enjoy free accommodation.
“Its going to be a first come, first serve affair and we have our record on dates of registration and payment of participants for the championships,’’ he added.
He, however, named registered state teams as Kano, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Yobe, Nigeria Police, NSCDC, Delta, Team Ghana and Niger Republic.
NAN reports that the championships, which started in 2001 under the sponsorship of Emmanuel Oghenejobo, an Olympian, is approved by the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF).
The Electronic Scoring System (ESS) would be in use for officiating under the supervision of national and international certified referees. (NAN)
