Dutse, Feb. 8, 2017 (NAN) The Jigawa Agency for Mass Education on Wednesday said it would train 5,227 members of Vigilante Group of Nigeria in basic and post basic literacy programme.

The Executive Secretary of the agency, Alhaji Abbas Abbas, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.

The scribe said the move was in line with one of the conditions in a recent bill submitted to the National Assembly by Vigilante Group to ensure that members had basic and post basic education.

Abbas explained that 4,059 members of the group would be trained in basic literacy, while 1,168 would participate in post literacy programme.

He said the group indicated that more than 80 per cent of members in the state were illiterates.

According to him, it is not proper for members of such paramilitary group to be illiterates.

He added that most of the members could neither read nor write, saying, however, that the agency would try its best to reverse the trend.

He noted that the training would soon commence and would comprise members of the group in the 27 local government areas of the state.

He noted that “`subsequently, the agency will train members of the Islamic Law Enforcement Agency known as Hisbah.” (NAN)
