Kano, Feb. 27, 2017 (NAN) The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Kano state has pledged to partner with the state government to tackle farmers /herdsmen clash in the state.
Alhaji Faruk Rabi’u, the newly elected AFAN chairman in the state, made the pledge in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Monday.
According to him, the new leadership of the association will do everything possible to ensure that peace prevails between the farmers and herdsmen in the state.
“As new leaders of the association, we will try to ensure peace and unity between the the herdsmen and farmers to boost agricultural production in the state.
“There are 27 commodity associations in the state that made up AFAN, so the new leadership of the association will do its best to promote peace between the two groups.
“Peace is the bedrock of any development in the society and without it no meaningful development can be achieved,”Rabi’u said.
He said the association had taken some far reaching decisions aimed at fostering unity between the herdsmen and farmers in the state to boost agricultural production.
“We have also taken steps to ensure that the barrier existing between farmers and the state government is removed so that our members can reach out to government and vice versa.
“When the barrier is removed, farmers will have access to government and present their requirements for the promotion of the sector,” he said.
He called on the Federal Government to ensure early distribution of fertiliser and other inputs to enable farmers access the commodities in time.
“The wet season is approaching and there is need for the government to provide fertilizer early enough so that farmers can get the commodity in time.”he added. (NAN)
