Abuja, Sept. 14, 2017 (NAN) Daniel Amuze-Danauta, Kaduna state Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Culture, on Thursday appealed for support for the country’s creative industry.
He said this at the Kaduna and Benue Day, at the ongoing 2017 Arts and Crafts Expo organised by the National Council of Arts and Culture (NCAC) in Abuja.
He said that such support would create job opportunities for the youth and further boost the nation’s economy.
“It is the desire of government to reposition our economy as well as avenues of improving our resources including our Internally Generated Revenues (IGR).
“One key sector that could be harnessed to revamp our revenue generation is the arts and crafts sub-sector,’’ he said.
He added that there was need for alternative means for sustainable economic development.
He said that there was the need to improve and consolidate as well as explore those abundant but inadequately tapped opportunities that were abound in the creative and art sector.
Also, Dr. Samuel Ortom of Benue lauded the organisers for sustaining the event adding that it was timely, as the Federal and state governments were promoting the national re-orientation and integration agenda.
“This pragmatic approach of bringing our various cultures together, not just within the country but all across the African continent is commendable.
“Benue state not being an exception as we showcase our distinct arts, crafts and culture, it is important for me to state that this period remained very challenging for us.
“We are trying to recover from the devastating effects of the recent flood that affected the state, with thousands of internally displaced persons mostly in Markudi and in some local government areas,’’ he said.
Ortom expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, for its quick response and also, the international community, corporate organisations and spirited individuals for their support.(NAN)
