Abuja, March 21, 2017 (NAN) The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has said that the renovated electricity service centre in Kabusa area in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will help to resolve incessant complaints by electricity consumers in the area.
The Managing Director of AEDC, Mr Ernest Mupwaya, said this at the commissioning of the centre in Abuja on Tuesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the once moribund service centre was renovated and equipped at the cost N2.2 million.
The managing director said that the service station would ultimately help to improve service delivery, especially in electricity supply to its consumers.
Mupwaya said in spite of the challenges inherent in the electricity business in the country, stakeholders in the industry were taking necessary measures to resolve them.
He said that the level of power supply to the area was based on the quantity of electricity allotted to it from the National Grid.
According to him, AEDC is allotted only 11 .2 per cent of the entire power generated from the grid.
He, however, expressed optimism that subsequent increase in electricity generation would ultimately result in an increase in electricity supply to the area.
Mupawaya said that the service station was also designed to improve services to the people and ultimately bring service closer to the grass roots.
He said that the company had commenced mass metering, noting that it would soon begin the metering of consumers in the area.
He thanked the Kabusa community for the support to AEDC, especially the donation of a space for the building of the service centre.
He said that AEDC would continue to partner with the community to improve electricity supply to the area.
Mupawaya said that frantic effort was being made to ensure that other communities within its franchise zone had service stations, especially in the rural communities.
He said the centre would ensure a harmonious existence between AEDC officials and members of the community, adding that AEDC would address their challenges.
Responding, the traditional ruler of Kabusa community, Esu Yohanna Koche, represented by Mr Joseph Dogo, said the community was grateful to AEDC for establishing the service centre.
He said that electricity supply in Kabusa had improved unlike other communities in the FCT.
Yohanna, however, said there was the challenge of inadequate transformers to distribute electricity to the area.
He also identified the none metering of consumers in the community as a major challenge.
He said that the non-availability of adequate transformers was resulting into load shedding of electricity in the community, adding that the community had assisted in the provision of transformers to boost electricity supply.
He said the community was committed to ensuring a harmonious relationship with AEDC officials.
He also urged the AEDC officials to always educate the people on their activities, to avoid misunderstanding in the discharge of their duties to members of the community.
Some of the customers, who spoke to NAN, commended AEDC for improved electricity supply to the community. (NAN)
