Accreditation
Mubi (Adamawa) Dec. 8, 2016 (NAN) Dr Moses Zaruwa, Vice Chancellor, Adamawa State University (ADSU) Mubi, says the institution needs N850 million to upgrade facilities for accreditation of some of its programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Zaurwa made the disclosure on Thursday in Mubi while briefing Gov. Muhammadu Bindow on the challenges facing the institution.
He said that the NUC visitation team was being expected in the university in the next five months.
“Our immediate challenge is that all our 24 undergraduates and some postgraduate programmes are matured for accreditation which was earlier scheduled for November 2016.
“However, in view of our peculiarities as the only university that was dislodged by the insurgents, the NUC granted our request to reschedule the visitation to May 2017.
“This exercise is crucial to the existence of the university. It is in this regard that we request Your Excellency’s urgent intervention,” the VC pleaded.
Zaruwa said that the university, which is the first state university in the North-East and rated as one of the best, was committed to academic excellence.
He added that with the support of Adamawa government and other stakeholders, the university would regain its position as one of the reputable institutions in the country.
In his response, Gov. Muhammadu Bindow, who passed vote of confidence on the Vice Chancellor and the Governing Council of the University, assured that his administration would support the institution.
He said that his main visit to Mubi with his cabinet to ascertain the challenges facing the institution with a view to addressing them in the interest of education and the people of the state.
“This university is greater than me and anybody here, we must put our selfish interest aside and make this institution succeed,” he said.
The governor urged the vice chancellor and members of the academic staff union, who have some differences to work together for peace and prosperity of the institution. (NAN)
