Lagos, Feb. 20, 2017 (NAN) A human rights activist and lawyer, Mr Femi Aborishade, on Monday advised the federal  and state governments to formulate more people-oriented policies to end agitations.

Aborishade told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that many agitations in Nigeria  were for improved living conditions and should be given attention.

He noted that the organised labour had been on a struggle for better welfare packages for workers, urging the governments to formulate and implement policies in that direction.

The unionist  said that Nigeria had enormous resources that could be harnessed to tackle unemployment, insecurity and poverty.

He urged the governments to protect the political and economic rights of the people.

Aborishade decried alleged intolerance of some state governments which sacked union leaders for demanding improved welfare packages for workers.

“Workers are weak economically and are being attacked. That is why it looks as if labour is not doing enough. Labour seems to be weak but the struggle continues,’’ he told NAN.

The activist, however, called on all Nigerians  to contribute toward national development, saying that national development would lead to improvement in workers’ welfare. (NAN)
