Abuja, July 12, 2017 (NAN) A Grade 1 Area Court in Karu, Abuja, on Wednesday granted N5 million bail to one Ndudi Elvis, 44, of Garauku, Niger State, over alleged misappropriation.
The defendant, a salesman, is standing trial over alleged criminal breach of trust, cheating and misappropriation which contravened Sections 314, 322 and 309 of the Penal Code.
The Presiding Judge, Mr Hassan Ishaq, admitted the defendant to a bail bond of N3 million with two reasonable sureties in like sum.
He directed that one of the sureties must be a civil servant of not less than Grade Level 9 who must submit copies of his appointment letter and last promotion letter.
He also directed that the other surety must be someone with reliable source of income and that both sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
Ishaq also directed that the sureties must submit their driver’s licenses or national identity cards and passport photographs with the court.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Mahmud Ismai’la, had informed the court that the matter was forwarded to Karu Police Station in Abuja for a discreet investigation on June 18 by Peter and Co. Law Chambers in Garki, Abuja.
He said the defendant was employed in 2015 as a marketer by Rehoboth Gee Ventures to supply bottled water and remit proceeds to the company.
Mahmud told the court that the defendant had been in the employment since 2015 till date discharging his duties as a marketer.
He also told the court that Police investigations revealed that the defendant supplied bottled water worth N 2.9 million between 2015 and 2017, but did not remit the proceeds to the management.
The prosecutor said that the Police discovered that the defendant converted the proceeds to personal use.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty and the matter was adjourned until Aug. 1 for hearing. (NAN)
