Zaria (Kaduna State), Oct. 6, 2016 (NAN) The Faculty of Education, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has spent N55 million on the construction of 27 offices for its lecturers.
Prof. Tijjani Abubakar, Dean of the faculty, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Zaria on Thursday, shortly after inaugurating the project.
Abubakar said that the money, which was generated from internal revenue sources, was also used to rehabilitate the faculty’s meeting hall and purchase of a generator.
“The journey started three years ago when I assumed office as dean of the faculty.
“After deliberation with my subordinates, we concluded that lack of office accommodation affects productivity.
“We realised that no matter how committed a worker is, the best out of him would not be tapped without good office accommodation.
“We used our internally generated revenue to successfully actualise our dream of providing 27 office accommodation for lecturers, renovation of a meeting hall and purchase of a standby generating set,” he said.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Garba lauded the foresight of the faculty and challenged others to emulate the “progressive idea” , to move the university to the next level of development.
“I must confess that these projects from IGR are the first of its kind in the university.
“I therefore urge all other faculties to imbibe the good spirit for the good of the university,” he pleaded while commissioning the projects.
In his speech, Chairman, Governing Board of the university, Alhaji Mohammed Dewu appreciated the efforts of the faculty, which he said was in line with the new focus of the institution.
He also urged other faculties to emulate the good gesture by looking inward in tackling some of their challenges.(NAN)
