Tokyo, Aug. 18, 2017 (Xinhua/NAN) Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who met with the new U.S. Ambassador to Japan, William Hagerty, on Friday said both countries would continue to work together to strengthen the Japan-U.S. alliance.

Abe told Hagerty about his anticipation of being “able to work together to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. alliance.”

“I have arrived at a challenging time for both our countries and I look forward to working with you.”

The talks were held following Hagerty’s arrival in Japan amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
