Zaria (Kaduna State), Feb. 1, 2017 (NAN) The transformation of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) requires the commitment of workers, the Railway District Manager (RDM), Northern District, Mr Aderemi Isma’il-Adebiyi, said in Zaria on Wednesday.
Isma’il-Adebiyi said this at the Outstanding Staff Award, 2016″ held at the railway premises.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that series of awards were presented to some workers, who distinguished themselves in various areas.
He observed that such dream could only be actualised if workers continued to be diligent, loyal, committed, dedicated and united toward achieving a common goal.
The RDM said the essence of organising the award ceremony was to interact with workers in order to appreciate diligence and hard work.
“When I came here, I found that staff of the district are very loyal, disciplined and committed to their job, they are working as if it is their personal property and this is what motivated me to organise this event.
“Remember, nowadays workers do not get overtime, however, I feel there is every reason to appreciate some of our staff who distinguished themselves during the period,”he noted.
While congratulating the awardees for the honour, Isma’il-Adebiyi charged both the recipients and non-recipients to be more committed to take the corporation to greater heights.
He said the list of selected people for the award did not depict the best out of the workers, but there are other people who might be better but had not been identified.
“Therefore, I urge those who did not get the award to be patient and work harder, next time it could be their turn but God had chosen these people to be awarded for this year,”he said.
Earlier, the Chairman, Nigerian Union of Railway (NUR), Alhaji Ibrahim Lawal described the ceremony as the first of its kind in the history of the district.
Lawal advised the staff of the district to see the gesture as a challenge that would motivate them to put in their best toward taking NRC to the next level.
He, however, regretted that no engine driver was remembered and awarded despite their efforts in generating revenue for the corporation.
Responding on behalf of other awardees, Rakiya Bala and Sa’idu Mohammed appreciated the award committee, management staff and entire stakeholders for finding them worthy of the award.
NAN reports that the award ceremony drew two beneficiaries, a senior and junior staff from each of the 12 departments. (NAN)
