NPP Member Comments on Ongoing Legal Case Involving Party Official

A member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications team has shared his perspective on an ongoing legal case involving a party official.

Awal Mohammed, speaking during a television interview, commented on the court proceedings against Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, and his company, Akonta Mining. The case involves allegations related to mining activities.

In his interview, Mr. Mohammed suggested that the state’s case may be facing challenges. He stated, “If you’re following the case, you know that the government is losing. According to the government itself, they do not have any documentation to show that he authorised someone to go into the concession to do it.”

He explained that the allegations center on whether the company authorized individuals to enter a specific area. However, he claimed that when the court requested evidence to support this authorization, the state indicated it did not possess such documents.

“You went to court and said that Chairman Wontumi’s Akonta Mining had given someone authority to enter into a forest reserve… They asked you to bring your disclosures. They asked you to tell the court if you really have any document to show that Chairman Wontumi authorised the person,” Mohammed recounted. “You said you don’t have any documents.”

Mr. Mohammed characterized the charges as weak.

It is important to note that these comments represent the opinion of a party member regarding an active legal matter. The judicial process will determine the outcome based on presented evidence and legal arguments.
