District Head orders traditional, religious leaders to mobilise subjects against polio

Doguwa (Kano), Jan. 30, 2017 (NAN) Alhaji Harazumi Aliyu, the District Head, Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State, on Monday directed traditional and religious leaders to mobilise their subjects to join the fight against polio.

Aliyu said that the Emirate Council was fully in support of the state government’s effort toward the eradication of polio and other diseases from the state.

He said that there was no reason for anybody to resist the polio vaccine since every religion places emphasis on quality healthcare.

Also, the Primary Healthcare Coordinator in the area, Malam Isa Balarabe, urged all immunisation officers to work closely with the traditional and religious leaders to overcome any challenge.

In his remarks, the council chairman, Alhaji Ali Abdu, pledged his commitment and support to strengthen polio immunisation and routine immunisation in the area.

NAN reports that the state government has targeted about three million children below the age of five for Immunisation Plus Days in January. (NAN)
