Attack
Jalingo, Jan. 30, 2017 (NAN) Alhaji Zakari Buba, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Yorro Local Government in Taraba, has dispelled rumours of a terrorist attack in Lankaviri town in the early hours of Monday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that there was confusion in the area Monday afternoon, after stories went round that terrorists were on rampage.
The rumours claimed that two persons had been killed by the attackers, sending everyone scurrying for safety.
But Buba told NAN in Jalingo that the pandemonium was unnecessary because no one was killed by herdsmen in the area.
“Look, no one was killed in Lankaviri and there is no need for all this confusion.
“What actually happened was that a native of Lankaviri went to farm in Garin–Dogo at Lau Local Government where there have been all manners of violence lately.
“Unfortunately, he was attacked and suffered machete cuts in that village, on his way home.
“As soon as he was brought back home, people started panicking; they started carrying tales that Lankaviri was under attack by suspected herdsmen.”
He said that the attacked man had been taken to the Jalingo Specialist Hospital and was responding to treatment.
The chairman wondered why anyone would seek to cause confusion in Lankaviri over an incident that happened at Garin–Dogo.
Buba urged members of the public to remain calm and assured them that government was ready to protect lives and property. (NAN)
