Warri (Delta), Jan. 29, 2017 (NAN) Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta has urged youths in the Niger Delta to embrace the Federal Government’s peace-building process to attract development to the region.
The governor spoke through the Director General, Team SMART for Okowa, Mr Sunny Oreshedere in Warri on Sunday.
Okowa made the call during the decoration of Team SMART Patrons from Warri South Local Government Area of Delta.
He said vandals of oil pipes had lowered the revenue profile of the state.
“I want to appeal for the understanding the people of Delta that for now things are not the way they used to be.
“This is due to the drop in prices of oil at the international market, coupled with the incessant pipeline bombings and vandalism in Delta.
“The ugly development has put us behind Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, and Bayelsa States in the 13 per cent revenue derivation from the Federal Government”, he said.
The governor said the Team SMART for Okowa was a platform through which the electorate could express their views and opinion on government’s activities and programmes.
He urged the patrons to take advantage of the SMART agenda to improve on the well-being of the people through employment generation.
Grand Patron of Team SMART for Okowa, Dr. Roland Oritsejafor, thanked the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve.
Oritsejafor, former Minister of Defence, described the governor as grassroots mobiliser, adding that the SMART was made up of intelligent persons.
“I am delighted that team SMART for Okowa is made up of dedicated characters from all parts of the state and with the support of the people, we will succeed”, he said.
Also, Mr Ama Agbajor, former Chairman of Warri South council, who spoke on behalf of the Patrons, thanked the governor and assured of good service delivery. (NAN)
