Ndufu-Alike (Ebonyi) Jan. 28, 2017 (NAN) The Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi, on Saturday matriculated 1, 500 students for the 2016/17 academic session.
Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution announced this during the matriculation ceremony, noting that the new-intakes deserved their admission.
“You should be proud of this achievement but humbled for being given this rare opportunity out of nearly 9, 000 candidates who competed for places in the institution,’’ he said.
He charged the undergraduates to shun all forms of distractions and take their studies seriously to avoid regrets at the end of their academic sojourns.
“Do not misuse the opportunities given to you to study in this institution but embark on rewarding activities that would guarantee academic successes,’’ he said.
He said that the institution would always equip its students with the right skills to make them compete favourably with their peers anywhere in the world.
“We have zero-tolerance to cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse, prostitution, sex and money trading for marks, among other social vices that are detrimental to your successes.
“You should make use of the university’s library, laboratories, medical and sports centres to excel in your studies and for total development and well being,’’ he said.
Miss Angela Ikpe, one of the matriculating students, pledged to work hard and meet the expectations of her parents, relatives and other well wishers.
Highlights of the occasion included the oath of loyalty administration on the new intakes to abide by the universities rules and regulations and signing of the matriculation register, among others.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the institution began academic activities in 2012 alongside other five new federal universities across the country.
It had its inaugural convocation ceremony on Dec.20, 2016 with 120 students receiving various degrees, certificates and awards in various fields of endeavour.(NAN)
