Ibadan, Jan. 27, 2017 (NAN) The Alumni Association of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has commended the owner-states for their efforts toward the re-opening of the institution.
The National President of the association, Babajide Bewaji, General Secretary, Oloso Kolawole and the Public Relations Officer, Owoyokun Samson, gave the commendation in a joint statement in Ibadan on Friday.
The institution was shut for over eight months due to failure in meeting salary obligations of its members of the staff.
The alumni said the N500 million grant released by the Oyo and Osun state governments as palliative, would create enabling environment for the restoration of academic activities in the institution.
The association expressed happiness that peace and understanding were gradually returning to the institution.
It urged the institution’s chapter of the labour unions to come to terms with the reality of the economic situation in the country.
“While we are grateful for the gesture of the two states, we appeal to them to device means by which subvention would be provided continually without delay.
The association called on the law makers of the two states to explore the possibility of using budgetary allocation to offset LAUTECH obligations through sponsoring of appropriate bill.
According to it, the bill should be for a mandatory deduction of a percentage of local government allocations from the two states to fund the university adequately.
“We thank all the unions, parents and guardians, most especially the ”ever reasonable Ladokites ‘’for their perseverance while the whole issue lasted.” (NAN)
