Damaturu, Jan. 26, 2017 (NAN) Alhaji Sani Sidi, Director-General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Thursday lauded Yobe government for evolving an effective system of distribution of relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.
Sidi, represented by Alhaji Musa Zakari,NEMA Director of Training of the agency, made the commendation during a courtesy call on Yobe deputy governor, Malam Abubakar Aliyu.
“The distribution system is well organised with effective monitoring mechanism,” he said, adding that no case of diversion of relief materials was recorded in the state.
According to him, the arrangement put in place ensures that items provided are delivered to the targeted beneficiaries in their original communities.
He urged Yobe government to maintain its transparent arrangement to ensure that relief materials reached targeted beneficiaries.
In his remark, the deputy governor, Aliyu, who is also the chairman, Committee on Resettlement and Rehabilitation of IDPs in the state ,assured NEMA that the all materials donated to IDPs would be given to them.
He said the state had only one camp in Damaturu, adding that most of the IDPs had relocated to their communities.
“We have a little over 2,000 people at the Pompomari camp in Damaturu metropolis who are awaiting clearance from security agencies on the safety of their communities to return home; we hope to close the camp in no distant future,” he said.
Aliyu said government was shifting concentration from humanitarian services to relocation and resettlement of the IDPs in their communities and pleaded for support from partners in the reconstruction process.
