Banks
Dutse, Jan. 25, 2017 (NAN) The Jigawa State Chamber of Commerce, Industries Mines and Agriculture (JISSIMA), on Wednesday expressed its readiness to introduce mobile banking in rural communities to enhance economic activities.
The JISSIMA’s Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Muhammad, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.
Muhammad said that the system would be introduced in all towns and villages across the state.
He said that the JICCIMA had already organised a one-day workshop on Financial Transaction for stakeholders, in collaboration with Bizi Mobile Communications, for proper take-off of the programme.
The chairman said that the gesture was to enable rural dwellers have access to banking services.
According to him, the initiative will enable rural dwellers, particularly businessmen and women, to have access to bank services.
Muhammad said that most rural populace had no bank account due to the absence of banks in their localities.
The chairman said that petty traders would be trained and certified to serve as agents in rural communities.
“You will find that women whose husbands live in other states or places find it difficult to receive money from them.
“Most times, they had to wait until one of their friends will be visiting home before sending money to their wives,” he said.
According to him, accounts would be opened for such rural dwellers through the mobile banking agents to enable them (dwellers) receive and send money.
“We believe this will help in boosting business activities across the state as it will also inculcate the culture of keeping money in banks among rural dwellers,’’ he said. (NAN)
