Bricklayer jailed 5 years for unlawful possession of cannabis sativa

Lagos, Jan. 25, 2017 (NAN) A Federal High Court, sitting in Lagos on Wednesday sentenced a 33-year-old man, Rilwan Ayiegun, to five years imprisonment for drug trafficking.
The convict, a bricklayer, had pleaded guilty to a one count charge preferred against him by The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA).
Justice Mojisola Olatoregun, who found the accused guilty as charged, however, gave him N5million option of fine.
The defendant had no legal representation.
The prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, had reviewed the facts of the case and tendered several exhibits before the court.
They included a written statement of the convict, a request for scientific aid form, a forensic analysis form as well as a bulk exhibit.
In the charge, the convict was said to have committed the offence on Dec. 14 at Ikota in Eti-osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The prosecutor said that the convict was arrested on a tip off, when about 8kg of cannabis sativa was found in his possession.

He said that the convict was consequently arrested and detained.
According to the prosecutor, the  offence  contravened the provisions of Section 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation 2004.(NAN)
