Lagos, Jan. 25, 2017 (NAN) Some security experts in Lagos on Wednesday urged school owners to provide adequate security around their schools to curb cases of kidnap.
In separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the security experts said school owners should be proactive and live up to the responsibility of securing their schools.
Mr Jude Uwazie of Apex Security said that school owners should always prioritise security of their premises.
“School owners should continue to upgrade security around their schools as the school population makes it vulnerable to security breach,” he said.
Mr Mike Ajayi, a security consultant, said that school owners should not wait till there is a kidnap before improving security in their schools.
“School owners need to envisage these attacks even if they do not pray for it because prevention is better than cure.
“It is medicine after death if you have to wait for a student to be kidnapped before taking security around your school seriously,’’ he said.
A retired security personnel, who pleaded anonymity, added that some school owners had refused to hire security personnel, claiming that they were too expensive.
“Some school owners even charge exorbitant fees but hire inexperienced personnel to secure their schools.” he said. (NAN)
