Makurdi, Jan. 24, 2017 (NAN) The Benue Government on Tuesday said it had concluded plans to commence layout segmentation of Waalawa area of Makurdi.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the decision was taken during a joint meeting between traditional rulers, stakeholders from Waalawa community and officials of the state Bureau for Lands and Survey.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Bureau for Lands and Survey, Prof. Jonathan Uever, said the decision to demarcate the land into plots was based on the need to properly capture their owners.
He said the bureau considered it expedient to embark on the project because of public demands.
“A request has recently reached us from some owners of 25 hectares of land located in that community.
“We can no longer live like this because the society is fast developing and we must work hard to catch up with modern life.
“The bureau is systematically opening layouts in Makurdi and other parts of the state to allow for proper regional planning of communities and Waalawa will not be left out,’’ he said.
Uever, therefore, urged members of the community to cooperate with the bureau officials for effective planning of the area.
The leader of the community, Mr Joseph Yongoikyo, commended government for agreeing to partition the community into plots, saying that such move would attract development to the area.
Yongoikyo explained that it became necessary for the area to be plotted to abate series of land disputes that had characterised the community.(NAN)
