Lagos, Jan. 24, 2017 (NAN) The Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) says there is no disquiet in the agency over the appointment of its new Director General, Prof. Sani Abubakar Mashi and issues concerning staff promotion.
A statement signed by Mashi and obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday said reports of disquiet in the agency were false and the handiwork of mischief makers.
Mashi, who said he had since assumed duty at NiMet, stated that the aim of such false report was to create unnecessary confusion in the agency.
“Already, myself and the former DG, Dr Anthony Anuforom have initiated a seamless transition and succession plan and have been conducting the business of the agency.
“In the past 10 days, I can attest to the benefits of this succession plan.
“We have not only been going through technical and operational procedures together but have also visited some of NiMet’s critical installations where I was adequately briefed on their capacity,” he said.
Mashi said they had been working in an atmosphere of friendship and partnership, adding that it was completely false that there was some disquiet regarding his assumption of duty.
On the question of promotion of staff, Mashi pointed out that from the briefings he had received so far, staff had been promoted as and when due over the years.
“Available records indicate clearly that in 2014 for instance, a total of 205 staff were promoted, while another 332 were equally promoted in 2015.
“In 2016 alone, another set of 315 members of staff also gained their promotions,” he said.
Mashi assured the staff members that the list of eligible candidate for promotion this year had already been compiled and was being processed. (NAN)
