Theft
Abuja, Jan. 24, 2017 (NAN) The police on Tuesday arraigned Gabriel Conelus in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, charged with impersonation and theft.
Conelus, an unemployed man who lives at Newsite Masaka, Abuja, is facing a
two-count charge of impersonation and theft.
The prosecutor, George Ayana, said Elizabeth Okolie of Eco Bank, Wuse Zone 4,
Abuja, reported the matter at the Wuse police station on Jan. 13.
He said that the defendant on Dec. 28, 2016, impersonated Amos Joseph, who’s ATM card got missing and needed replacement.
He added that the defendant was issued a replacement and he withdrew N127,000 from Joseph’s account.
Ayana said that then the defendant came back to the same bank on Jan. 13, 2017 claiming that he was Itesi Moses that lost his ATM card and needed replacement.
He explained that Conelus was again issued another card but was caught in the process of withdrawing money from the account and was handed over to police.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 132 and 287 of the Penal Code.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges and the Magistrate, Mr Mohammed Tahir, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 and one surety in like sum.
Tahir ordered that the surety must be living within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the case until Feb. 7 for further hearing. (NAN)
