Rep. sues for peace among warring communities in C’River

Calabar, Jan. 23, 2017 (NAN) Rep. Mike Etaba, representing Etung/Obubra Federal Constituency of Cross River, on Monday, condemned the frequent communal clashes among neighbouring communities in Obubra Local Government Area.
Etaba said this in Calabar, while briefing journalists on the recent communal clashes in his constituency.
He explained that such conflicts caused by ownership of farmlands, had often led to loss of lives and property and urged warring communities to sheathe their swords and embrace peace.
He appealed to youths and community Leaders, to exercise restraint and always try to resolve any disagreements with other communities without resorting to the use of arms.
According to him, last weekend, there was conflict between the Ogwurude and Ohenidah communities, while within the same time, the Iyametet and Ababene people were up in arms against each other.
“These conflicts inflict destruction, both on lives and property.”
He also used the medium to call on youths and community leaders of the various communities to learn to exercise restraint in the face of provocation and seek for peaceful resolution to any misunderstanding without taking up arms.”
Etaba also called on the warring communities to allow the committee set up by the State Government to look into the remote causes of the conflicts with a view to ending the clashes.
