Ilorin, Jan.23, 2017 (NAN) Pastor Emmanuel Ayorinde of the Blessings Assembly, Sabo-Oke, Ilorin, has warned religious leaders against inciting statements to avoid civil unrest in the country.

Ayorinde gave the warning in Ilorin on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and advised religious leaders to mind their utterances.

According to him, religion has been used as a divisive tool by politicians to achieve their aims and winning most religious leaders to their side to get what they wanted.

He explained that most religious leaders were fond of talking about unrest in the presence of their congregation.

“Nigeria is in a trial time at this moment and I don’t expect any pastor or Imam to talk about war in front of their followers.

“Peace should be the slogan of every religious leader for now for the sake of the children and aged people in the country. War is easy to pronounce and start but it does not end well,” he said.

He called on religious leaders to be cautious with what they were preaching to their congregations to guard against possible unrest in the society.

Ayorinde also advised religious leaders not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to achieve their aims.

The cleric called on Christians and Muslims in the country to unite and be tolerant with one another in enhancing peace and progress in the country.
