Kaduna, Jan. 19, 2017 (NAN) Salaam Health Ministries and Gospel Crusade Outreach (SHMGCO), an NGO, said it would build two classrooms in Unguwan Fada, Kujama Ward, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State to encourage enrolment of children in school.
Visioneer of the NGO, Mrs Saidi Muhammad, disclosed this during the foundation stone-laying ceremony in the area on Thursday.
Muhammad said the gesture was to inspire children to begin the journey to explore the horizons bayond their own.
According to her, the current policy of free and compulsory education initiated by Gov. Nasir el-Rufai, is a welcome development.
“SHMGCO is ready to work closely to support communities through educational aids.
“It is our hope that this would stimulate and encourage school enrolment of pupils in the communities,” she said.
The Visioneer said that the outreach would also undertake health, social and economic interventions with a view to addressing poverty and disease.
She appealed to the Chikun local government council to furnish the classrooms when completed and use them to encourage children to enrol in the school.
Speaking, the Chairperson of the LGA, Hajiya Hadiza Yahuza, commended the NGO for the gesture.
She said the local government had 25 primary schools out of which more than 10 had been renovated.
“So far we have renovated over 10 schools and more would be renovated,” she added.
The chairperson added that the council had acquired 2,000 chairs and benches to be distributed to the schools.
Yahuza applauded the state government’s free and compulsory primary education policy.
“We realise that most community schools have a low number of teachers that are not proportional to the number of pupils.
“We will deploy teachers to schools in close proximity to their areas and provide incentives to those posted outside their localities,” she assured.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the school has two classrooms built by the government and two mud classrooms built by the community.
In total, the school has 100 pupils and three teachers. (NAN)
