Lagos, Jan. 19, 2017 (NAN) For allegedly breaking into an office and stealing a laptop and N690,000 cash, a security guard, Isaac Uba, was on Thursday hauled up before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, 23, who lives at Agunbiade Street, Pen-Cinema, Agege, Lagos, is standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
But the prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde, insisted that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 7, 2016 at 2.00 a.m. at Samking Chemicals Ltd located at Plot 13, Acme Road, Ogba, Ikeja.
He alleged that the accused with another man still at large broke into the company and stole N690,000 and a HP laptop valued at N150,000.
According to him, the incident was reported by the complainant, Mr Kehinde Oso of Samking Company.
He said the accused conspired with his brother, Chinonso Nbagu, to perpetrate the act.
“The security guard purposely locked the brother inside the office when he came to visit him while he was on night duty.
“Nbagu stole the items and pretended to have come from outside the company the next day.
“The accused afterwards raised an alarm after his brother had left the company’s premises.
“The CCTV camera in the office captured it and the accused was apprehended and handed over to the police for further interrogations,” he told the court.
The offences contravened Sections 285, 307 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be sentenced to up to three years imprisonment if found guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Omolade Awope, granted the accused bail in the sum of N400, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
Awope said the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case to Jan. 28 for trial. (NAN)
