Lagos, Jan. 19, 2017 (NAN) Paul Oparah, a student of `The Polytechnic’, Ibadan, who allegedly disappeared with his friend’s N389,000 was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, 24, who resides at 13, Old Railway, Iju-Ishaga, a Lagos suburb, is facing a two-charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Joseph Ajebe, told the court that the accused conspired with others still at large and diverted the money to his own personal use.

He said the offence was committed on Dec. 29, 2016 at Fagba, Iju, Lagos.

Ajebe said the complainant; Ajulu Austin gave Oparah N389, 000 to help him carry out online transfer to his business partner, one Emmanuel in Dubai.

“Unfortunately the student converted the cash to his own personal use without making any transfer and left to an unknown place.

“He was later traced to his apartment and arrested,” Ajebe said

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Section 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes three-year imprisonment for offenders.

The accused, however, denied the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Alexander Komolafe granted the accused N50, 000 bail and adjourned the case till Feb. 22 for mention. (NAN)
