Kano, Jan. 16, 2017 (NAN) The Kano State Government said it had spent N250 million to complete the digitisation of its Abubakar Rimi Television Station (ARTV).
The commissioner of Information, Malam Mohammed Garba, disclosed this at a workshop organised by a media consultant, TEECEE Media Services for working journalists in Kano on Monday.
Garba said the state government found it necessary to complete the project in order to make the station more effective and result-oriented.
He said the state government was doing its best to address the challenges militating against smooth operation of its two media outfits, the ARTV and Radio Kano.
“Since we came on board, we have been trying to address the numerous challenges facing the two stations,”he said.
He said the state government had also provided two brand new generating sets to Radio Kano in addition to supplying diesel to the two stations directly.
He commended the organisers of the workshop for initiating the programme as it would enhance journalism profession.
On the Triumph Newspaper Company, the Commissioner said the state government had concluded arrangement to reopen the company in March.
“We are trying to relaunch the paper in March for the benefit of the people of the state.
Earlier in his remarks, a media consultant and veteran broadcaster, Alhaji Ahmed Aminu, called on the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to check the excesses of private media organisations that engaged in unethical practices.
Aminu said there was urgent need for the commission to put a stop to all the unethical practices by employing more hands to ensure effective monitoring of such stations.
“The way and manner private media organisations operate is sad. What we are saying is that freedom goes with responsibility,”he said.(NAN)
