NiMet, Katsina Govt partner on SRP, climate information

Abuja, Jan. 14, 2017 (NAN) The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), has signed an MoU with the Katsina State Government to provide information and data in respect of the 2017 Seasonal Rainfall Prediction (SRP) and other climatic services.

A statement by the Public Relations Department of NiMet on Saturday in Abuja said the MoU was informed by the desire of the state government to downscale SRP for its farmers.

At the signing, the outgoing Director General of NiMet, Dr Anthony Anuforom, appreciated the Minister of State, Aviation, Hadi Sirika, for his support and the Kaduna State government for prompt response, saying that these had served as morale boosters.

He said that the products and services of the agency had continued to gain national acceptance and recognition.

He said that Katsina State Government deserved commendation for identifying agriculture as key in the state’s development agenda.

Anuforom expressed the optimism that the MoU would add value to the 2017 SRP, which he said was around the corner.

In his response, the Special Adviser on Agriculture to Kastina State Government and leader of the delegation, Abdullahi Abbah, reiterated the importance of the agreement to the two parties.

He also commending NiMet for its timely and accurate weather predictions, saying it had provided reliable guides to people and agencies.

The incoming D-G of NiMet, Prof. Abubakar Mashi also expressed gratitude to the team and other stakeholders in the state, saying that their support made the agreement a reality.

Mashi commended the outgoing D-G for his commitment and effort at reaching out to other stakeholders and ensuring that the impact of NiMet was felt nationwide. (NAN)
