Abuja, Jan. 14, 2017 (NAN) Malam Musa Maikasuwa, Acting Secretariat, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Education Secretariat, says access road and construction of a clinic will soon be completed at the Abuja University of Technology, Abaji (AUTA).
Maikasuwa, who made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja, said that provision of external works around the office area and additional borehole would also be done this year.
According to him, last year, the Department of Higher Education has laid the ground work for the eventual take off AUTA by interfacing with Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) and the National Universities Commission (NUC) to make the dream a reality.
He said that FCT College of Education, Zuba was currently the only tertiary institution owned by the FCTA, adding that efforts were being made toward the establishment of AUTA.
“Efforts have reached advanced stage and we are optimistic that the institution will take off once all the necessary modalities have been put in place,’’ he said.
On development of physical infrastructure, the secretary said that last year, FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) completed the construction 221 classrooms, 22 blocks of four compartments toilets.
“The board also was able to completed seven science/intro-tech laboratories, two fence and gate houses, three boreholes, one administrative block, one library, one volley ball court and supplied three sets of pupil’s furniture.
“On rehabilitation of school facilities, 13 classrooms and three science/intro-tech laboratories, one library hall, one administrative block and a staff quarters were rehabilitated.
“There was also completion of kitchen/dining at GSS Jikoyi, renovation of block of eight classrooms at GSS Bwari and Abaji, and completion of perimeter fence at GSS Gwagwalada,’’ he said.
Maikasuwa said that FCT UBEB prepared, forwarded and received approval for implementation of the 2015 Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Quarterly Action Plan on physical projects.
He said that it ensured effective implementation of the commission intervention programme in the FCT.
“Procurement process for implementation of the approved 2016 UBEC Quarterly Action Plan on physical projects has reached advanced stage,’’ he said. (NAN)
