Police arraign house help for alleged theft of employer’s N700,000

Lagos, Jan. 13, 2017 (NAN) A 20-year-old housemaid, Loveth Emmanuel, on Friday appeared in an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly breaking her employer’s safe boxes and made away with N700,000.

Emmanuel of No. 72 Sholanke Str., Ebute Meta, Lagos, was arraigned on a two-count charge of stealing and causing breach of peace.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Babatope Julius, told the court that the offences were committed on July 15, 2016.

He said that Emmanuel, a domestic help, had entered into the bedroom of the complainant, Rufus Okoli, and stole N700,000 from four safe boxes.

“The accused cleverly used a broomstick to unlock the safe boxes and stole  N700,000 meant for the school fees of the complainant’s children,” he said.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 166(d) and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Emmanuel pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The trial judge, Magistrate M. O. Olajuwon, admitted Emmanuel to a bail in the sum of N200,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

Olajuwon adjourned the case till Jan. 25 for further hearing. (NAN)
