Lagos, Jan.12, 2017 (NAN) The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has commended the Federal Government for appointing two of its members to serve as chief executive officers of key aviation agencies
The AON Chairman, Capt. Nogie Meggisson, made the commendation in a statement obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.
NAN reports that the government had on Jan. 9, appointed Capt. Fola Akinkuotu as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and Mr Akin Olateru as the Commissioner for the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB).
Meggisson noted that their appointment was encouraging and a display of government’s confidence in their ability and experience to take the agencies to greater heights.
While congratulating both men on their appointments, he urged them to discharge their duties diligently and reposition both NAMA and AIB for greater efficiency.
Meanwhile, the AON has announced that it now has a new executive council in place to pilot the activities of the association for the next two years.
Its Secretary, Mr Ewos Iroro said Meggisson, the Chief Executive Officer of Jedidiah Air Limited (JedAir),once again emerged as chairman for a second term in office.
He said Alhaji Abdulmunaf Sarina, Chairman of Azman Airlines was unanimously elected as Vice Chairman, while Capt. Chimara Imediegwu, Director of Flight Operations, First Nation Airways,was returned as the Financial Controller.
Iroro said that the new executive would be expected to forge greater and robust advocacy for and on behalf of the association.
He said that the executive would also be engaging government constructively on critical operational and industry issues.
Accordingly, the executive is expected to promote unity and oneness among member airlines in an effort to promote their individual and collective interests, he said.
However, Meggisson said in his acceptance speech that he would continue to promote the interest of airline operators by working together as a team. (NAN)
