Akun (Nasarawa State), Jan. 12, 2017 (NAN) The District Head of Wakama in Nasarawa state, Mr Peter Angbazo, has called on religious leaders to preach peace in their sermons and condemn violence for Nigeria to develop.
Angbazo gave the task while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday at his palace in Wakama, Akun Development Area of the state.
“It is our duties to preach peace to our subjects and other Nigerians as peace is the necessary requirement for the development of any nation and no nation or society can achieve meaningful development without peace.
“That is why there is the need for the two major religions of the world, Islam and Christianity, to preach peace.
“The leaders of both religions should join hands to foster unity among Nigerians; we should always learn to be our brothers’ keepers.
“Both Islam and Christianity abhor violence, as such their adherents should practice the teaching of their faith to the followers in the interest of peace and national development,” he said.
Angbazo also called on Nigerians to tolerate and live in peace with one another irrespective of religious, cultural and ethnic differences.
He said peace and unity were veritable tools for national development and urged Nigerians to strive to maintain them for the nation to make progress.
The district head called for sustained prayers to enable the country to overcome the devilish acts threatening the peaceful coexistence of Nigerians.
Besides, he urged members of the public to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities and avoid all negative acts for the overall development of the country.
“People should report any suspicious person, movement or activity in their domain to the appropriate authorities for prompt action,” Angbazo said. (NAN)
