Businessman bags 1 month imprisonment for buying stolen property

Abuja, Jan. 12 2017 (NAN) A Grade 1 Area Court, Karmo, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 25-year-old businessman, Saidu Samaila to one month in prison for receiving stolen property.
The presiding judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, gave the convict N 5, 000 option of fine.
Sadiq, however, warned him to desist from committing crimes.
He said that the conviction would serve as deterrent to others.
Samaila of no fixed address was found guilty and convicted on one-count charge of receiving stolen good.
The convict prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, claiming that he was unaware the good was stolen.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, told the court that one Mr Obinna Otunato of Lokogoma Estate Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on Jan. 5.
Auhioboh said that the complainant discovered that one Ezekiel now at large vandalised his truck and stole wire where it was packed.
He said that Samaila was aware that the wire was a stolen property and still bought from the Ezekiel at the sum of N250.
The prosecutor also said that the wire was recovered during police investigation.
The offence contravened Section 317 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
