Yola, Jan. 12, 2017 (NAN) The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has tasked Adamawa Government on the need to constitute peace committee to promote peaceful coexistence between farmers and herdsmen in the state.
The North-East Vice-Chairman of MACBAN, Alhaji Mafindi Damburam, made the call Thursday in a statement on Thursday in Yola, adding that the committee would find lasting solution the clashes between the two parties.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that the outbreak of hostility between herdsmen and farmers in Demsa and Yola North Local Government Areas of the state, last week, led to loss of lives among others.
“We are, therefore, calling on the Executive Governor of Adamawa to constitute a committee to look into the causes of this phenomenon find lasting solution to the problem.
“We need to rescue this state from the occurrence of such damnable act; we must also for the sake of our people and prosperity imbibe a sense of love, honesty, patriotism and justice,’’ he said.
He said that the council, when formed, would advise the governor and authorities concerned on how to promote peace within the community and the state in general.
Danburam said that MACBAN was committed to peace and ever ready to work with all stakeholders to ensure lasting peace in Adamawa.
Damburam condoled the Police Command in the state over the death of six policemen in the last week attack in Kwayine village of Demsa Local Government.
“We wish to condole the people, government of Adamawa, Commissioner of Police and relatives of the deceased over the killing of gallant police officers. We equally wish to commiserate with all who were either injured or maimed or suffered losses.”
He, however, denied that members of MACBAN were involved in the killing, adding that they had no reason to attack policemen drafted to ensure peace in the areas.
The Vice-Chairman also called on the government and authority concerned to and investigate alleged compensation of members of the association in connection with the crisis.
Damburam said that MACBAN had constituted a five-man committee to investigate the matter. (NAN)
