Tokyo, Jan. 12, 2017 (dpa/NAN) All the 26 crew members have been rescued uninjured from a sinking North Korean cargo vessel off the Southern Japanese Island of Kyushu, the report said on Thursday.

“The Japan Coast Guard brought all the crew to safety today after receiving distress signals from the 6,558-ton ship from a point 60 km South-West of Fukue Island.

“The cause of the accident is still unknown,’’ the report said, citing the coast guard officials.

The ship was carrying rice while sailing from Nampo on the western coast of North Korea to Wonsan on the eastern side of the country, the report said.

In December, Japan imposed further sanctions against North Korea in response to the reclusive regime’s most recent nuclear test in September.

Beijing has claimed sovereignty over self-ruled Taiwan since 1949.
