Abeokuta, Jan. 11, 2017 (NAN) An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Wednesday sentenced a 37-year-old man, Iyanda Kolawale, to two years imprisonment for stealing N2.9 million from a publishing company.

Kolawole, whose address was not given, was docked on a one-count charge of stealing.

The accused, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, was sentenced to two years imprisonment by the Magistrate, Mr Idowu Olayinka.

The magistrate, however, gave the convict an option of a N20, 000 fine.

He said that the fine could only be effective after the repayment of the N2.9 million.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Augustine Ozimini, told the court that the accused committed the offence between April and November 2014.

Ozimini said that the accused stole the N2.9 million belonging to Malrose Book and Publishing Company Ltd, Quarry Road, Agbeloba area in Abeokuta.

He said that the accused was a sales representative with the company.

“When the company audited their account, they noticed that the sum of N2.9 million was missing.

“The company reported him to the Police and Kolawale was arrested and he confessed that he had converted the money to his own use.

“The accused, however, promised to refund the money to the company, which he failed to do,’’ Ozimini said.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Volume 1 Laws of Ogun, 2006 (NAN).
