Lagos, Jan. 10, 2017(NAN) A trader at the popular Ladipo Auto Parts Market in Mushin, Emeka Onah, was on Tuesday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly attacking other traders in the market with cutlass and broken bottle.

The accused is facing a six-count charge bordering on conspiracy, assault occasioning harm, belonging to unlawful society and terrorising members of the public.

When the charges were read, Onah, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Maria Dauda told the court that the accused and others now at large had on Nov. 27, 2015, conspired to commit felony, terrorise the public and engaged in a conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.

The accused was alleged to have assaulted one Chinenye Okonkwo, by using cutlass and broken bottle to cut his face, arm, chest and ear.

He is also accused of being a member of an unlawful society, being in possession of fetish objects and charms which he used to intimidate and attack Okonkwo.

The offences, Dauda noted, contravened Sections 40(1),(2), (B), (c), (E), 133(B), 166(D) and 171, 243 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The Magistrate, Mrs. O.O.A. Fowowe-Erusaife, admitted the accused to a bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two responsible sureties, who should have three years’ tax clearance.

One of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused, while the residential and official addresses must be verified by the prosecutor, she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused will, however, remain in prison custody pending the perfection of his bail.

The case has been adjourned to Feb.14 for trial. (NAN)
